The team at A. Pietig Concrete & Brick Paving, Inc. recently completed a full hardscaping and landscaping upgrade for a residential property in Bloomington, MN.
The homeowner was looking for a long-term solution to improve both the usability and curb appeal of their outdoor space—and we were proud to help bring their vision to life.
This property had plenty of potential but needed better structure and accessibility.
Our goal was to design and install outdoor features that not only looked great but also served a practical purpose, especially considering Minnesota’s freeze-thaw climate and the heavy snow we see each winter.
What We Installed: Walkways, Steps, Planters, and Concrete Access
We started by preparing the site and mapping out key areas for walkability and visual balance. This project included several custom hardscape features that now define and enhance the entire front and back yard:
Stone Walkways and Patio Area
We installed a combination of large rectangular and square pavers in an offset pattern to form durable and attractive walkways and a central patio area. These pavers offer year-round traction and pair well with Bloomington’s mix of colonial and mid-century home styles.
Entry Steps Using Cut Stone Tiles
The entrance to the home now features elegant steps made from cut stone, creating a natural look that complements the brick facade of the house. These steps are not only safer and easier to navigate, but they also improve curb appeal significantly.
Retaining Wall Planter Beds
Around the patio and near the front steps, we built stacked stone retaining walls to hold elevated planter beds. These serve both form and function—adding green space while also managing water runoff more effectively, which is critical during spring thaws.
Concrete Sidewalks for Seamless Access
We poured smooth, broom-finished concrete sidewalks connecting the front yard to the backyard, allowing easy access across the entire property. These paths are especially useful during snowy months when traction and clear direction matter most.
A Clean, Cohesive Finish for a Functional and Beautiful Landscape
Once the pavers and concrete had fully cured and the landscaping elements were in place, the transformation was complete. The home now has an outdoor space that’s easier to maintain, safer to navigate, and far more welcoming.
Our customer was very impressed by the results.
This project is a great example of how hardscaping and landscaping can work hand-in-hand to create a seamless look while still solving practical challenges like elevation change, runoff control, and seasonal durability.
